Writing the academic thesis is an important part of MTA education. The topic selection, writing, review, defense and other links must comply with the “Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Academic Degrees" and meet the requirements put forward by the national education steering committee for MTA regarding MTA academic thesis, as well as the requirements on postgraduate paper format, defense procedures and other relevant provisions of Guilin University of Technology. The preparation hours of the academic thesis should not be less than six months.
The topic selection of the academic thesis for MTA should link theory with practice, emphasize on extracting the key scientific problems from the specific actual tourism-related work, for which the problems found shall be treated as the topic of academic thesis. Through comprehensive and in-depth investigation, obtain the first-hand materials, in order to make the selected topic and research work closely integrated with actual development situation of tourism Industry, which bears not only the strong pertinence, but also the important scientific significance. The types of the academic thesis can be the thematic studies, investigation reports, case studies, etc. the number of words should be no less than 25,000 words. The review of the academic thesis should focus on whether the postgraduates are capable of comprehensively using tourism management theory and methods to solve practical problems; reviewing their new ideas and new methods for solving practical problems; and reviewing their contribution to economic and social efficiency.
Among the reviewers of the academic thesis, there must be one expert whom has acted in a senior professional technical position in an actual work department. The members of the thesis defense committee should have experts whom have acted in senior professional technical positions or senior management positions in actual departments.
After the graduate students have completed learning of courses listed in the cultivating program, have passed all the examinations and thesis defense, and have complied with GUT’s relevant regulations concerning student status management, such students are allowed to graduate and will be awarded with graduate diploma; if the graduate students have passed the HSK-6, upon examination and review by the professional degree assessment team and approval by the degree evaluation committee of GUT, the MTA degree will be awarded.
撰写学位论文是MTA教育的重要组成部分。论文的选题、撰写、评阅以及答辩等项工作必须符合《中华人民共和国学位条例》、全国MTA教育指导委员会对MTA学位论文提出的要求以及桂林理工大学研究生论文格式和答辩程序等有关规定的要求。论文的工作时间不得少于半年。
MTA学位论文选题要理论联系实际，强调从具体的旅游工作实际中提炼出关键的科学问题，成为学位论文选题，并通过全面而深入的调查研究获得第一手资料，从而使论文选题和研究工作紧密结合旅游行业发展的实际，既具有很强的针对性，又具有重要的科学意义。论文类型可以是专题研究、调查报告、案例研究报告等；字数不得少于2.5万字。学位论文的评审应着重审核研究生综合运用旅游管理理论和方法解决实际问题的能力；审核其解决实际问题的新见解、新方法；审核其对经济效益和社会效益的贡献。
学位论文的评阅人中，须有1名实际工作部门具有高级专业技术职务的专家。论文答辩委员会成员要有在实际部门工作并具有高级专业技术职务或具有高级管理职位的专家参加。
研究生完成培养方案规定的课程学习、成绩合格，并通过论文答辩，符合学校学籍管理相关规定的，准予毕业并颁发硕士研究生毕业证书；HSK达到六级以上，经专业学位评定小组审核、校学位评定委员会审批，授予旅游管理硕士专业学位。
